The is a great story with a fantastic cast of characters. They are very well devolved and immensely likable. The main characters Cord and Alix fall deep in to love at first sight. She is a surgeon that has a sixteen year old son and a four year old daughter. Cord is a firefighter chief that has three sons age's fourteen-seventeen. Alix is Cord's new neighbor, and after they meet....well...let's just say the rest is history! Shortly after Alix moves in to her new house she begins to encounter some strange happenings, especially around her daughter...scary things....evil things.The best part about this book is the ghost story. Don't get me wrong the love story is nice too, but the ghost part really draws you in and makes you become invested.
One thing that did irk me was when near the end when Alix wanted to leave the house right after being scared out of her mind. And it took her at least an hour for her get ready to leave! Ummmmm...Hello!?! If I was freaked out and scared for my family, I would have packed a couple a few things shoved them in a bag and hightailed it out of there with family in tow! See ya! Sayonara! Au revoir! So long suckers...Im outta here!!! Instead Alix takes a shower! I suppose it wouldn't have played out as well in the book, if she had left. lol ; ) But still...its just like in the horror movies when you start to yell at the girl on screen "No! You idiot don't run up the stairs!". HA!
This a great story, nice and spooky just in time for halloween! It has spooks, curses, and witches....everything that goes bump in the night! If you like this authors other book 'Purgatory' you will LOVE this one.

Those interested in a book with spirits, ghosts and things that go bang in the night would enjoy this book. It is very well written as all of Ms LeVeque's books are.
I love KLV medieval romances, but this is not one. This is set in modern times. This is the story of a doctor, Alix Hendry and a fireman, Cord Trevor. Alix moves into a house that once belonged to Cord' s family. She has two children, Cord has three. They are both divorced. She works at a hospital close to where she lives. They fall in love. This is pretty good, I enjoyed it even though it is not medieval romance. I recommend this story.
I'm not sure how I started with Book 3 of the American Hero series, I had no reviews as reference, so I just dug in. It's a great ghost story set in Salem, MA with a few great twists. Definitely worth reading!
Contemporary love story with paranormal events and ghost haunting with ties to the Salem witch trials. What a very interesting story and as usual is well told. I primarily listened to the Audible version which had Whispersync capabilities that is always welcome, as you can switch back and forthe between reading and listening, depending on where you are. Another great addition to my growing library of books by Kathryn Le Veque
LOVED THIS STORY! This is a great Halloween read and would make a great movie! Two souls, both from broken marriages, find one another and start a life together with their children. I love the interaction between the teenage boys. I have 2 sons of my own and can definitely relate to the bantering. The house they moved into was haunted and oohh sooooo scarcely, of course it took awhile for them to realize Alex's 4 year daughter did not have an "imaginary" friend.
I am usually a follower of Le Veque's medieval novels but I have found her contemporary novels are just as good. I recommend this book.
This is one of my all time fav's of Kathryn's. I am not usually into contempory romances.... but Evenshade changed my mind. The romance was sweet and very romantic or as romantic as it can get with 5 kids between two people. The scary part was wonderful, it was believeable and had me on the edge of seat the whole time. The characters, Alix and Cord were so sweet. Cord was Kathryn's typical drop dead gorgeous main man and her leading lady was the usual petite blonde... that being said, it was absolutely delicious. It's the perfect way to spend a stormy evening, when you are all alone and you're the only one it the house.. beware of things that go 'bump' in the night and be afraid... very afraid.
Oh my goodness after reading this book from her American hero series Ms. Le Veque has definitely scared me to go tour any Victorian houses or to buy any old Victorian house and fix it up new. This is not to say the story is not a compelling and fascinating read, it is. I just don't like the haste in which I read it especially late into the night where I kept hearing weird things go bump at strange times and I work nights too!
Ms. Le Veque had a hot hunky handsome secret warlock and fire-fighter Cord who I couldn't help but be enamored of just as much as the heroine Alix is. I also liked Alix that being a doctor is a difficult patient and doctors are quacks. I laughed out loud at that and recounted the many times I told my husband the same thing.
Even with the sweet romance between Cord and Alix which kept me turning pages into the dead of the night but the paranormal scary aspect of this book has frightened me a little. I would recommend it especially to some paranormal romance reader but to her medieval fan lovers they might be apprehensive for this genre. I also think Ms. Le Veque pens a pretty good paranormal romance and should add that to her status as well. I still however enjoy all that Ms. Le Veque writes and will purchase more of her works.
